Dear MPS Community,
Thank you to Annawon Weeden for providing his “First Light Flashback” presentation to all of our MMHS students today (in two assemblies). Mr. Weeden’s program included a dramatic enactment reflecting personal experience and Tribal history of the “People of the Dawn” from pre-European contact to the present day. Annawon is from the Mashpee Wampanoag and Narragansett tribes, and has been awarded a Congressional Honor as Culture Bearer for the entire New England region for his continued efforts to correct misinformation and misrepresentation of Indigenous people.
