KCCS Enrichment Clubs - Notification

Parent confirmation letters were sent home this Thursday and you will receive a Pickup Patrol update. In addition, please complete and return the attached club form. At this time, all clubs are full.

A Friendly Reminder for Our PreK-2 Families

We kindly ask all PreK-2 families to pack a complete change of clothes in your child's backpack. Keeping a spare outfit at school is a huge help for our staff and, most importantly, for your child. It ensures they can quickly and comfortably get back to learning and playing after any unexpected spills or accidents.

Principal's Message

What a fantastic and busy start to the school year we've had! It's hard to believe we're already nearing the end of September. The beautiful weather has been a perfect backdrop for our students as they have settled into their classrooms and jumped into a lot of new learning.

We're so grateful for the continued partnerships that help make our school a safe and supportive community. Our collaboration with School Resource Officer Katie Hennessey and our local Fire Department is essential, and we're thankful for their commitment to our students' well-being and safety.

Thank you for being such a supportive school family. Let's keep this momentum going!

In Partnership,

Jane Redman

Dismissal and Pickup Procedures

Hello Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us make our drop-off and pick-up procedures as smooth and safe as possible. We still need to send out a few reminders to ensure the safety of all students.

Parking and walking your child to the building is not permitted, as this creates traffic and safety hazards. Instead, please have your child ready to exit the car on the passenger side. Our staff will be there to help and ensure your child gets to class safely. All students should be in a car seat/booster seat in the back seat when in your vehicle. Here are the guidelines from the state.

Additionally, please do not pass other vehicles. It is essential that you remain patient and stay at the curb until directed to leave.

Thank you for your continued cooperation in keeping our school community safe!

Bus Changes

To ensure student safety and accurate attendance, we cannot accommodate daily bus changes. Students must follow their assigned bus schedule. Any requests for changes to a student's transportation must be approved by the central office. Thank you for your cooperation.

KC Coombs School Council Members Needed

Are you looking for a way to get more involved in our school community? We're seeking three new parent representatives to the KC Coombs School Council!

The School Council plays a vital role in our school by advising the principal on key matters, including:

  • Supporting educational goals that align with the District Strategic Plan and School Improvement Plan.

  • Identifying students' educational needs.

  • Reviewing the school budget.

For more information on MA School Councils, you can click here.

The council includes the principal, staff members, parents, and selected community members. This is a two-year commitment, and a parent must have a child attending KC Coombs during their term. (If your child will only be enrolled for one more year, your term will be for one year.) Once the council is formed, we'll determine the best time to meet each month. We can meet before the start of the school day or after for about 45 minutes.

Please email Mary Jeffery at mjeffery@mpspk12.org if you are interested.

Thank you!

Nurse's Note: Important Form for Your Child

The health office is available to provide first aid and emergency care and illness assessment as needed. Illnesses occurring during the school day will be evaluated, and the student will either be sent home or allowed to rest in the health office and then return to class at the discretion of the school nurse. Please refer to the student handbook for additional information. If you wish to be notified each time your child visits the health office please send in a written note requesting this so all staff will be made aware of this request. If you do not wish for your child to participate in health screenings please send in a written note stating this or email me directly. In order to ensure health and safety, it is important to follow the guidelines and protocols noted below.

If your child requires medications or treatments during school hours, it is necessary to remember the following as noted in the student/parent handbook:

  • Medications must be in the original container with the medication name and current date for each medication.

  • You must sign and complete a parent consent form for each medication.

  • You must provide a signed doctor’s order form for each medication.

  • Medications must be delivered by an adult to school. These procedures also include all over the counter medications. Please contact the health office to schedule a time to meet with the nurse.

You should have also received a green sheet to complete and return allowing the health office to provide minor health care treatments if needed. Please also inform the health office any time there are any changes to the information you provided in the annual return student health online link. I would also like to share with you the following reminders and tips’ regarding head lice as September is “National Pediculosis Month”.

  • Parents/Guardians should check their children at least once a week and preferably daily, all year round for head lice.

  • If head lice are identified at home, please contact the health office to discuss next steps.

Please feel free to stop by or contact the health office at (508)539-1520 ext 104 or e-mail sschakel@mpspk12.org. I look forward to working with you this year. Please also remember to email the attendance email at kccattendance@mpspk12.org by 9:00 a.m. every time your child is absent or will be tardy.

Take care, Nurse Stacey
