No Place for Hate: Rally at the Rail
On Friday, KCCS kicked off our No Place for Hate initiative! Thunder joined in learning about our school's No Place for Hate Promise! The focus of our rally was to emphasize how we are all welcome here at KCCS! Four students from Ms. Grieve's first grade class shared what No Place for Hate means to them and recited the promise for the school. The whole school recited our promise and the Falcon Pledge. Throughout the year, lessons about kindness, acceptance and building community will be taught. Please talk to your child(ren) about No Place for Hate at KCCS. If you have any questions about the program, please reach out to Principal O'Brien at mobrien@mpspk12.org or Assistant Principal Prehna at bprehna@mpspk12.org.
Cape Kid Meals!
Our school is pleased to inform you that we have partnered with Cape Kid Meals, a program which provides weekend food support to children across the Cape. Each weekend, a bag full of kid-friendly, shelf-stable food is sent home with students in their backpack. The food bag intends to replace the breakfast and lunch the children receive Monday through Friday at school along with healthy snacks. The bag includes 2 breakfast, 2 lunches, milk, juice, 6 healthy snacks and 2 pieces of fresh fruit. All items are shelf-stable and easy to open and prepare regardless of the child’s living situation.
How It Works:
Schools identify students in need with the consent of a parent. Bags are delivered each Friday to school and are discreetly placed into a child’s backpack by counselors before dismissal. The entire process is confidential and only the school personnel know which students are receiving the bags.
If this is a resource that is of interest, please reach out to Guidance.

2nd Grade Reveal Math
At KCCS, our math curriculum we use is Reveal Math. Students think deeply about math problems and use manipulatives to build skills. Ms. Amento, pictured below, poses question and facilitates the learning as students grasp mathematical concepts. An important aspect is group work. These interactions allow students to use mathematical language while building interpersonal problem solving skills. This is a key time for Ms. Amento to circulate the room and interject in student discussions to support student learning. Ms. Fox's class learned how to use new math tools. Reveal math is taught kindergarten through second grade at KCCS. If you have questions about Reveal Math, please reach out to your child's teacher.
Specials classes are important and integral parts of the day for students at KCCS. PreK students have specials every day. In library, lessons are tied to what students are learning in class. This week, students are learning about pumpkins and fall. Ms. Smith's academic learning targets are clear and concise. Ms. Smith read to a small group of students while Ms. Fulone taught letter/number matching and Ms. Rose helped students go through the pumpkin patch obstacle course which is tied directly into the read aloud. Connecting the learning in the classroom to specials, reinforces all aspects of the academic process.
1st Grade Reveal Math
Ms. Schreiner's class practiced addition concepts taught in our Reveal math program. There were five stations that contained novelty hands-on items that go along with the time of year. We used Frankenstein's screws to practice using ten frames, we practiced doubles using monsters, we counted on up a number line using popping ghosts, and so much more. The best part was having parent volunteers working with small groups. Fun was had by all!
