School Vacation: February 17-21, 2025

This is a reminder to our MMHS community that next week is a school vacation week. There is no school! Please remember that this is also a vacation week for our school staff (and me) so, if you reach out via phone or email, you are not likely to receive a response until Monday, February 24th.

Attention students who took the ASVAB test!

You will be receiving your test results soon and they can be complicated to interpret. After vacation, we are scheduling time for SGT Butler to come in to help interpret your test results. We will let you know when we have a date and time set.

Families - Have I told you lately how fabulous your kids are??? It is such a joy to be the principal at this school and I truly enjoy working with our students every day. Thank you for sharing your amazing kids with us!

StudentsRemaininginAssignedClasses

Over the past few weeks, there has been a significant increase in students requesting to spend class time in a location other than their assigned classrooms, such as the Main Office, the Library, Officer Hennessey's office, and other teacher locations. While we all agree that those may be fabulous places to be, students need to be in their assigned classes learning from their assigned teachers from the start of class until the end of class. The only exceptions to this rule may be made for students who have special circumstances as indicated on an IEP or 504, and must be approved by building administration or our school counseling office. This message does not apply to needed nursing or bathroom visits, but are meant to address students requesting to work in a location outside of their normally assigned classroom.

Parents and Guardians - Please help us in reinforcing this message with your MMHS students.

MMHSMobileFamilyPickup!

The MMHS Food Pantry and Cares Closet held its first mobile family pickup today ahead of February vacation. Families were able to shop for items from our pantry via a Google Form, selecting what they needed. They then had the option to schedule a pickup time at their convenience, with their orders brought directly to them.

Moving forward, families will be able to shop from the MMHS Food Pantry every other week, with pickups always taking place on Thursdays at MMHS. Stay tuned for the next email with more information!

Special thanks to senior Kaelyn Gomez for helping to coordinate today's pickup — and for all the work she has done in the pantry — as part of her senior project.

All week, students were trying to figure out what the staff were doing with our school spirit week. Yes, it was Hope Week, but staff may have gone a little above and beyond... We left our students totally perplexed. Seniors set up an investigation board in Ms. Melby's office trying to piece it all together. Underground Spirit Week anyone??? 😇

On February 16th at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, two students from Mashpee Middle/High School will compete in the Division 5 State Track Meet. Grey Auger, an 8th grade student, will compete in the Mile and 1000 meter races. Ryan Araujo, a senior, will compete in the Long Jump. Grey qualified for the state meet in the mile by running 4 minutes and 55 seconds in the mile, the second fastest mile in the state for all middle school students and the 36th fastest time in Division 5. His time of 2 minutes and 52 seconds in the 1000 meters is also the second fastest time for all middle school students in the state and 41st in Division 5. Ryan’s qualifying mark of 20 feet 4 and a half inches is the 11th longest jump in Division 5. Both athletes are competing to advance to the State Meet of Champions on February 22. The top 8 athletes from each event will advance.

As we approach February break, 13 French students from MMHS are counting down the days until their departure for Nice, France. They are busy packing, and thinking through potential conversations they will have with their host families. Each morning will begin with French immersion classes followed by afternoon excursions to villages and towns in the Provence region. Highlights include tours along the French Riviera of scenic Nice, world renowned Cannes, and the impressive aquarium in Monaco. The group will also explore the cobblestone streets of medieval Eze and participate in a perfume making workshop before returning to their host families for an authentic dinner and conversation. Students have been working hard and are excited to immerse themselves in both the language and culture of southern France.

Congratulations to Mashpee Middle High School VEX Robotics Teams 63857B Tyler Schiling and Christian Alfonso, and 63857D Brodie Perry and Colby Rogers on winning the Cape Cod VEX League 2.0 Competition last night at Mashpee Middle High School. Please wish them well as they have qualified and will be competing in the MA VEX Regionals during Feb. Vacation! MA VEX Regionals is the highest level of competition in the state, this tournament will qualify students to go to Worlds!
