Hat and Hood Fundraiser

Starting this Friday, January 10 the student council will be hosting their annual Hat & Hood fundraiser to raise money for their upcoming fifth and sixth grade social. For the fundraiser, students of all grade levels are invited to wear a hat or hood for the entire day in school.

Help us raise funds by donating old athletic shoes in any condition! Drop-off boxes are located at the front of the building, courtesy of Student Council.

Thank You! Huge thanks to everyone who came to Movie Night. It would not have been such a success without the help of the Quashnet Student Council, Mr. Williams, Quashnet Admin, DPW, and our amazing volunteers.

Hat&HoodFundraiser

Starting this Friday, January 10 the student council will be hosting their annual Hat & Hood fundraiser to raise money for their upcoming fifth and sixth grade social. For the fundraiser, students of all grade levels are invited to wear a hat or hood for the entire day in school. In order to wear their hat or hood, students must $1 to the student council and receive a bracelet for the school day signifying that they have permission to wear a hat/hood for the day.

This fundraiser occurs for the upcoming four Fridays in January, 10,17,24,31.

When students arrive at school there will be student council members stationed near all the doors selling the bracelets. All student's faces must still be entirely visible when wearing a hat or hood on these days. All the money goes back to the students, for them spend on prizes, decorations and other items for the fifth and sixth grade social.

This Tuesday, January 7 is the next day 1, and is the projected date of beginning lesson 4 & 5 of the puberty unit. This means that ALL students will now attend Wellness class for the remainder of the unit. Information on the topics for these lessons in provided below. Students who were opted out of lessons 1,2,3 will be integrated back into their classes for the upcoming lessons. If you have any questions, please reach out to me directly, eswitzer@mpspk12.org

Hygiene & Feeling Good About the Way You Look

Performance Objectives:

  • Definition of Hygiene

Lesson # 5

Growing Up with a Healthy Attitude

Performance Objectives:

  • Define maturity. (Physical & Cognitive)

  • Healthy vs Unhealthy Relationships

  • Peer Pressure

  • Talking to a Trusted Adult

  • 6th ONLY: Safe vs Unsafe Touch

Safe & Unsafe Touch Information (6th Grade ONLY)

In this lesson, students will learn to differentiate between safe and unsafe touches, understanding when certain touches are appropriate and when they may be uncomfortable or inappropriate. This is taught in all contexts of how it is appropriate to interact with peers in all settings. They will explore the concept of personal boundaries, learning to recognize and respect both their own boundaries and those of others. The class will also focus on effective communication, helping students practice asserting their boundaries, saying "no," and seeking help when they feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

Healthy Relationships Information (5th & 6th Grade)

In this lesson, students will explore the key differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships. Healthy relationships includes all kinds of relationships, for example how to identify a good friend. Students will examine the characteristics of both types and discuss how these traits apply to various people in their lives, such as peers, parents, siblings, and teachers. The class will focus on the importance of effective communication skills for maintaining healthy relationships and resolving conflicts, practicing these skills through role playing different scenarios. Lastly, students will learn how to advocate for support from trusted adults when they need help in navigating challenging relationships.

We only have a few weeks left for session 1 clubs. The last week of session 1 clubs is the week of January 27-31.

Session 2 clubs start the week immediately after the week of February 3-7.

This means we are hoping and trying to get everything ready to send to families on my blog next week to sign up for session 2 clubs. Please make sure you are attentive to this and get your child signed up accordingly.

January is always a busy month with many co-curricular activities reaching the half way mark of the school year. Please make sure you are attentive to all the concerts, play performances, and other events taking place at school this month that your child is involved with.
