MTSS Support
Mashpee's Student Success Framework
Also known as MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports)

At Mashpee Public Schools, we believe that every student deserves the support they need to succeed—academically, socially, and emotionally. That’s why we are using a system called MTSS, or Multi-Tiered System of Supports.
We like to call it our Student Success Framework—because that’s exactly what it is: a clear, thoughtful way to make sure all students get the right help, at the right time.
What is MTSS?
MTSS is not a program or a special class. It’s a district-wide approach that helps schools:
-
Identify what each student needs to do their best
-
Offer extra help to students who may be struggling
-
Use teaching methods and tools that are proven to work
-
Partner with families to help students grow
How It Works:
MTSS uses a three-tier system:
-
Tier 1: Support for All
All students receive strong, high-quality teaching in every classroom, every day. -
Tier 2: Extra Help When Needed
Some students get a little more support—like small group lessons or check-ins—when they need it. -
Tier 3: Individualized Support
A few students may need more intensive help, like one-on-one instruction or specialized strategies.
Students can move between tiers based on their progress. The goal is always to help them improve—and to do it early, before problems grow.
What Makes MTSS Special?
-
It focuses on both academics and behavior—because students need support in learning and in how they interact with others.
-
It uses data and assessments to track student progress and adjust supports as needed.
-
It promotes teamwork between educators and families, so everyone is working together.
Thanks to support from the Peter and Elizabeth Tower Foundation, Mashpee is working with national experts to make MTSS a strong, lasting part of how we support students. By focusing on helping students who need the most support, all students benefit.
