Mashpee Public Schools Indian Education Grant

The Mashpee Public Schools Indian Education grant supports American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) students by addressing their unique cultural, language, and academic needs through supplemental programs. These grants fund initiatives that strengthen academic success, celebrate culture, and foster collaboration between schools, families, and the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.

Key Initiatives:

• Student Support: Tutors are available in each school building, and tribal members regularly visit to host "Lunch Bunch" gatherings with students across the district.
• Cultural and Language Enrichment: Grant funding supports cultural activities, events, and experiences that celebrate Native heritage and language.
• Professional Development: In partnership with the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Education Department, professional development opportunities are provided for teachers and staff to build cultural awareness and understanding.
• Parent and Family Involvement: Funding helps increase parent engagement in educational decision-making and supports the creation of family-centered programs.
• Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Partnership: Mashpee Public Schools staff and the Mashpee Wampanoag Education Department meet quarterly to review progress, share updates, and collaborate on student-focused initiatives.

Wampanoag Outreach Opportunities

In partnership with the Wampanoag Tribal Education Department, I'm excited to share the following opportunities with our MMHS students:

Friday, 11/7/2025 - A representative from MS2, a summer math and science program at Phillips Academy, will be available to meet with Indigenous students in grade 9 during lunch periods. This is an informational session about their summer programs. Interested students should check in with the grades 7-9 School Counseling Office for a pass. See flyer.

Dual Enrollment Students: Cape Cod Community College will be offering a FREE and HYflex Spring semester course titled An Introduction to Indigenous Education. While Indigenous students are encouraged to apply, this opportunity is being offered to all MMHS dual enrollment students. See flyer and check in with your school counselor for more information!
